Thomas Reiss
Interview with David Reiss
1. What is your opinion of OPEC? While OPEC may be working as a organization its business qualities render it a corporation. Their policies enable them to dominate countries that have developed an oil dependency.
2. How do you believe OPEC is effecting the environment? Obviously the extraction/burning of oil is harmful for the environment in general.
3. What renewable energy sources should we look into? Hydro, wind, solar, and geothermal.
4. How can we as a nation wean ourselves off of foreign oil? Through the creation of job promoting policies and ideas that can stimulate the construction of solar, hydro, and wind units to obtain energy.
5. What allows OPEC to keep such a strong grip on the US? Our oil dependency is enormous. Almost rivaling that of China's. OPEC has gotten the US consumers "hooked" on petroleum products.
6. Should OPEC revise their current policies? As they stand, yes, a few. Mostly those dealing with terrorist profit through oil exportation.
7. How has the war in Iraq effected oil exportation to the US? Neighboring oil exporting countries to Iraq have dealt with fleeing civilians and other wartime difficulties. Just for bordering Iraq. They have become irritated and raised prices on oil exported to the US.
8. What security measures can be taken to kill the trade between Saudi Arabia and the US? (Saudi Arabia is a legitimate terrorist harboring nation) Obviously start by developing green policies to stimulate job growth as well as destroy our ties to Saudi Arabian oil. While our petroleum dependency may not be completely killed it will somewhat offset terrorism being fueled by oil.
9. Is the current structure of OPEC stable enough to prevent a monopoly? Yes, OPEC has at least established policies that prevent one country from monopolizing another within OPEC itself. But OPEC still is able to control countries outside of itself. (The US.)
10. What are the main causes of oil dependency? A consumer based society where everything is needed to be quick and easy. Our cars are at the time very inefficient and killing the environment as well as out budgets.
